  5. Help spread the word!! :D

A very important announcement today!
“What is it Katy?” is now on Indiegogo and I’m raising up funds for the printed graphic novel. :D
Katy is on a train journey to a not-so-far-off destination, you have limited time to speak with her before her stop. What will you ask Katy?
“What is it Katy?” is an interactive graphic novel I began in the middle of June, 2011. Based in part on a lot of feelings and thoughts I had had on my regular 10 hour train journeys around the coast to-and-from university, the comic is a reflection of a lot of my own personal musings on mortality through the medium of sequential art.
But for me, it was also a significant experiment in terms of story-telling. I previously had made comics that were really only intended for the medium of print, and I wanted to see if I could connect with audiences in a new or different way. The result ended up as a comic that wasn’t as much mine as it is everyone’s. It became vitally important that each reader bonded with the comic in their own unique way, so that they could work together to solve the mystery of Katy’s story.
The webcomic is currently running on smackjeeves, and can be all read online for free here.
Funding “What is it Katy?”
The funding goal for this campaign ($500) covers a small limited print run of a perfect-bound paperback “What is it Katy?” book and creation of bonus material for the book.
The campaign will last until the end of April, at which time I will be printing the book for debut at MCM Expo in London in May if I meet the funding goal.
In return for any help you can give me, I’ve added perks to the side, ranging from a mention in the book up to an entire goody-bag of comicky yum-yums.
$5 Stranger to KatyA contribution of this much will have your name printed in the ‘Thank you’ portion of the book. :)
$15 Acquainted with KatyA contribution of this much will serve as a pre-order for the finished Katy book. You will get your name in the ‘Thank you’ portion and a copy of the book posted to you. (Or if you are going to an event such as London MCM Expo, you can choose to pick up the book from me in person if you like!)
$50 Friends with KatyAlong with the previous perks (a dedication within the book and a copy of the book itself), I will also draw and ink original inside cover art in your book!
$70 Bestest-Friend-Ever with Katy! Not only will you receive the mention on the ‘Thank You’ pages, receive a copy of the book, with original inside cover artwork, but you will also receive a copy of Those of No Class #1 and the Those of No Class Concept Book AND an A3 poster of my work.

Other ways you can help
If you can’t help fund Katy, don’t worry! Another way you can help is by spreading the word about her, and continuing to ask her questions until the conclusion of her story. Katy has her own twitter page you can follow, and anybody can ask questions on smackjeeves without needing to make an account.
Much thanks to everybody who has shown this comic support so far, I hope you will continue to enjoy it as we begin to wrap up Katy’s story.

me: no, you're old enough to do these things by yourself.

my child: it's a project on harry potter.

me: GIVE ME THAT. CANCEL ALL MY APPOINTMENTS. TELL EVERYONE I'VE GONE AWAY FOR THE WEEK. THIS WILL BE THE FIRST A YOU EVER GET, BUCKBEAK.

  9. Think about the marks you want to make on the paper in front of you… the ones that bring you pleasure and satisfaction. You can’t control what other people think or if they’ll give you a job. You can only control your own actions and the work you produce. You have to be a little delusional to pursue a life in the arts, so throw caution to the wind and make pictures that excite you and hopefully the world will agree.
